Forest
Policy
Timber
law and taxation is a very complex issue with ever-changing rules
and regulations. It is beneficial for the NWPWA to provide resources
and contacts that can be consulted to supply more detailed and specific
information on the current timber tax regulations.
Several
laws and regulations address earth-moving activities that have the
potential to degrade the quality of waters of the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania. Since timber harvesting involves earth moving, individuals
involved in harvesting forest products should be familiar with these
laws and regulations.
National
Timber Tax Website was
developed to be used by timberland owners, as well as a reference
source for accountants, attorneys, consulting foresters and other
professionals who work with timberland owners by answering specific
questions regarding the tax treatment of timber.
The
Forest Landowners Tax Council (FLTC) is an independent, national
nonprofit organization dedicated to providing an effective and unified
voice for non-industrial, private forest (NIPF) landowners on federal
tax issues. The Council seeks to provide technical research to identify
opportunities for timber tax improvements. FLTC is also a source of
education for those who wish to learn more about timber taxation.
Forest,
Taxes and Conservation Easements, presented by the Virginia
Department of Forestry, includes links regarding timber taxation,
income tax planning, conservation easements and estate planning.
American
Forestry, the nation's oldest nonprofit citizens conservation
organization, serves as a voice of moderation on forest policy issues
in the United States through programs and services that develop and
share information on forest policy issues related to ecosystem restoration
and maintenance; bring the perspectives of urban and rural community
groups to the policy arena; promote constructive dialogue among diverse
interests; and pursue polices and programs based on "common ground"
solutions that integrate environmental, social, and economic considerations.
